Richard Abarno
In His Own Words
Some facts:
I was born in NY in the beginning of 1939. Although my mother delivered me, some credit is often given to the doctor on duty at the time. My father owned a toy store. Read into this what you will. Later I was conscripted in the army until honorably discharged, after, I graduated from Parsons school of Design in New York. I still have my set of pastels from Parsons so I haven’t done a whole lot with pastels.
What followed:
Graphic designer, advertising photographer and illustrator. None of which most likely has much to do with my sculptures. In fact I’m not sure where the ideas come from but I do have a sketch book of pending ideas which keeps getting larger. I have created over one hundred fifty sculptures and plan to keep on constructing them until I no longer can. My hope is that they will bring others some joy and stretch ones imagination. Maybe I should write this in the third person, though if I had, you might not realize I was the one writing it.
Thorton Dial, a recognized outside artist, once said, Art ain’t about paint. It ain’t about canvas. It’s about ideas. I find that quote at the heart of what I do.
Thanks for looking, Richard
