Laura Gaffke

In her Own Words

I believe art is an inward journey to a place of discovery, growth, and stillness. My creative practice is present in all areas of my life which informs and influences my art. Quiet moments in my garden and at the beach observing, listening, sketching, and taking photographs connects me to nature and the energy of aliveness, freedom, and peace.

Vibrant layers of color and the recurring symbolism found within the circle are important in my work as I contemplate the cyclical rhythm of the seasons and the renewal and growth that come with each one. My paintings reflect my deepest values: freedom, growth, optimism, connection, and joy.

About Laura

Laura Gaffke had the pleasure of growing up in Southern New Hampshire where she was fortunate to have the mountains, city, and seacoast all within close reach. Her diverse surroundings electrified her love of nature and invoked a desire to travel and explore the world. It is from these experiences, as well as her natural ability to focus on joyful moments that her vibrant color palette emerged. She engages viewers by revealing intimate, soulful moments from her life while working intuitively with paint. It is here where meaningful connections are made.

After graduating from Rivier College with a Bachelor's Degree in both Fine Arts and Art Education Laura taught K-8 students in NH for the next 14 years. She then moved to Groton, Connecticut, and earned her Master’s in Fine Art/Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College, VT. She maintains a dedicated, studio practice in Groton, CT where she also teaches, writes, and nurtures an ongoing collaborative art practice with fellow artist and friend, Tina Hirsig. This practice reinforces how connections deeply affect her creative work and life.
